How can you and your congregation grow closer and more attentive to Christ? An ancient prayer practice may help.
We at the Duke Clergy Health Initiative want to resource you, our clergy partners in ministry, with research-backed practices for deepening your and your congregation's spiritual discernment. Out of all the options in our well-being toolkit, we chose the Daily Examen for its invitation to regular and restorative self-reflection.
Not familiar with the Daily Examen? The Daily Examen is a method of prayerful reflection on the events of the day in order to name and notice where God has been present and to discern God's direction anew. It is a simple but powerful prayer practiced regularly (often daily!) by Jesuit clergy for over 500 years. But, really, anyone can use it to more closely align their lives with God's.
With this resource, you’ll find everything you need to sustain a daily or weekly practice for yourself or your congregation. You might introduce it to your staff, Bible study leaders, or your clergy covenant group. Even children and youth can do it.
